Join Delegate Charniele Herring and Alexandria Clerk of Court Greg Parks for a practical overview of Virginia’s Clean Slate Law and its impact on access to criminal records. This program examines the distinction between sealing and expungement, the offenses eligible for automatic sealing, and the requirements and procedures for obtaining sealing by petition. Topics include waiting periods, petition preparation, required judicial findings, excluded offenses, and relief when eligible records have not been automatically sealed. Participants will also learn about the protections afforded by sealing, continuing disclosure obligations, permitted uses of sealed records, and practical considerations for advising clients seeking relief.
