Join us at the November meeting to honor Ms. Douglas.

Public Defender Melinda Douglas announced her retirement effective November 1, 2019. In recognition of her service over the past 32 years as the public defender for the City of Alexandria, City Council presented her with a proclamation at the October 2 legislative meeting. In addition to being the first public defender for the City, Ms. Douglas is also the first woman appointed Chief Defender of a public defender office in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ms. Douglas is a long term member of the Alexandria Bar Association and has served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Bar Foundation.
