So you have an injured client who may or may not have a worker’s compensation claim in addition to their personal negligence claim. This CLE will provide a brief overview of both personal negligence and worker’s compensation laws in Virginia. We’ll discuss how both types of claims can interact with each other as well as important issues to be aware of when trying to determine the best strategy to resolve the claim.

Presenter: Ashley Strandjord

Ashley Strandjord began working at a family friend’s law firm when she was 16. Through observing and learning the processes of trials, depositions and other facets of the law, she quickly fell in love with all aspects of litigation and decided she wanted to help people navigate the legal system.

Ashley earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. She went on to attend Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in Michigan, where she earned her Juris Doctor, and she joined CHASENBOSCOLO in 2017.

Ashley previously represented New York State and its agencies as a volunteer Assistant Attorney General on a wide variety of state and federal matters. Most rewarding, however, was her experience performing pro bono wills and estates for cancer patients.

Her commitment to service extends outside of the office through community volunteer work as a member of the D.C. area chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon’s alumnae association. In her free time, you can find Ashley hiking around the greater D.C. area, exploring national parks with her family, perusing secondhand bookstores and visiting local pick-your-own orchards.

Presenter: Robin Cole

Robin Cole has been working with Liberty Mutual as a staff attorney since 2009 and has been practicing insurance defense since 2006. Robin represents Liberty Mutual as well as their insured employers in matters pending before the Virginia Workers Compensation Commission as well as DC's Department of Employment Services. She represents both corporate clients as well as individuals in a variety of civil litigation matters including automobile accidents, premises liability, and defective construction pending before the Virginia and District of Columbia State and Federal courts. Robin is a graduate of the University of Florida (B.S. 1997) and the Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. 2001). She is admitted to the Virginia, District of Columbia, and Florida bars and is a member of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and Virginia Women Attorneys Association.

Presenter: Elizabeth M. Soc

Elizabeth believes the law serves to help us all. Witnessing her family’s perseverance to build a life in the United States as refugees inspires her to support others facing challenges.

A Virginia native, Elizabeth attended George Mason University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in government and international politics and a minor in legal studies. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor at Penn State Dickinson Law. Elizabeth has been practicing law since 2011 and joined the CHASENBOSCOLO team in March 2018.

She believes a personal injury lawyer’s role is to make the community a safer place and to stand up for the underdog. One of her proudest legal accomplishments was securing benefits on behalf of a pedestrian struck in an intersection.

When she’s not in the office, Elizabeth volunteers for Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation in Fairfax County and serves as the Director of Education for the Northern Virginia Women Attorneys Association (NVWAA). She also loves fishing and cheering on the Washington Redskins.
