The Alexandria Bar Association is a community of professionals working together to improve the quality of the legal environment through networking and by serving the people of Alexandria.
Our annual Membership Campaign takes place during the month of June, but applications are accepted throughout the year. Applicants may apply for the following levels of membership:
Active member--member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar, licensed to practice in the state of Virginia, with a bonafide office for that purpose within the city limits of Alexandria, or who resides in Alexandria. (Dues: $225/year)
Associate member--any member of any State or Federal Bar in good standing who does not qualify for active membership. Associate members shall have all the rights and privileges of active members except the right to vote. (Dues: $210/ year)
Honorary members--Judges of the Circuit Court of Alexandria, the Judges of the General District Court, and the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, the Clerk of the Circuit Court and other members that the Board of Directors may from time to time designate. Honorary Members shall not have the right to vote, and are exempt from dues.
Emeritus members--any member or former member of the Association who is 65 years of age or older and who has retired from the active practice of law may become an Emeritus member. Upon approval of the Membership Committee, the Emeritus member shall have all the rights and privileges of active members, except the right to vote. Emeritus Members shall pay a reduced dues schedule as fixed by the Board of Directors each year.
Student members-- any person currently enrolled in an accredited law school, or who has completed the curriculum at an accredited law school, but has not yet passed the Bar, may become a Student member, with all rights and privileges except the right to vote. (Dues: $75 a year)
